Arts and creativity is a massive arena, so to ensure focus, in 2024 we are planning to put the spotlight on “Event Based Arts”.
With our initial intention to focus on live music and drama, it quickly became clear that this was too narrow as we wanted to include things like film, photography and comedy.
Looking at the matter from a different perspective, the link quickly became evident. All these things are event based and create opportunities for people to come along and enjoy the arts collectively, whether it be at a play, a live music gig, a film showing or an exhibition.
It was also felt that this focus fit well with the recent launch of Whatsoninglossop.com. A site that aims to bring together arts& creative events happening in the town.
There is no doubt that Glossop has a lot going on and we want to ensure that we are fulfilling our role to support an nurture this activity. Creating an environment where artists and creatives feel supported in their endeavours to find and engage with Audiences.
Increasingly, Glossop is becoming host to some exciting festivals. The Dark Peak Photo Festival, next week (February 22nd-25th), celebrates photographers’ talent both local and global. The Outlaw Festival in May 2024, now in its 6th year, a rock extravaganza at The Globe, promises electrifying performances, and lets not forget Glossfest tabled to make a repeat performance in Norfolk Square in May 2025 .
But these big events happen in the context of day to day activities of promoters and venues, with regular events going on at locations across the town every week.
To support these activities, we are committed to a number of initiatives over the next 12 months:
- To continue to develop the events listing site whatsoninglossop.com. A site where people can find out about and in the coming months buy tickets to events in the knowledge that the site is run buy the local creative community, and that any ticket sales/fees are going direct to venues, or being ploughed more generally into supporting the towns creativity.
- To continue to produce the bi-monthly printed “What’s on In Glossop” guide giving venues and event organisers free access to promote their events across the town.
- Through our Town Hall Sessions organisation that brings Glossfest to the town every 2 years, to create regular opportunities for high quality music events across the town
We have always said that Glossop is a creative town. Through these initiatives we what to make sure people get to experience what we have to offer.
In closing, all I would say is. Sign up to to What’s on in Glossop emails so we can keep you posted. If you have an event, the list it on the site, and most importantly get out, buy tickets to events, and enjoy a great night out in Glossop.
